As some of you who know me (by "some" I mean probably one or two of my three possible readers) already know, I recently fell ill in a most heinous way. Frankly, I've been expecting something along these lines for about four years now, though perhaps not quite in the way it happened. I've always had some trouble breathing during the spring months from allergies, as well as when the weather gets hot and humid, but this year has been particularly unkind to me.
Last Friday, I woke up around 5:30 AM with the feeling like someone was standing with one foot on my chest, and the other on my throat. Needless to say, I was quite alarmed, as this is very different from normal. The only reason I managed to get back to sleep was because I literally passed out almost an hour later. I went to Urgent Care as soon as I came to a few hours later, and was there informed that I have allergic rhinitis, bronchitis, and possible asthma. I could have told them about the allergies and asthma, but the bronchitis was news to me.
The doctor prescribed 5 (FIVE!!) medications for me, including Flonase and an inhaler. It seems to me that Fate has decided that I must become a more stereotypical nerd. Now I just need to start wearing tortoise-shell glasses with a piece of masking tape, get me some braces, and I'll be all set. I mean, it's bad enough that I play and have developed my own mythology for Dungeons & Dragons in which I rebuilt the core rules from the ground up, and that I'm writing a novel based in this world of mine, but now I have an inhaler because I most likely have asthma?! I won't know for few more weeks, as the infection has to clear up before I can be tested, though I'm pretty sure I do after having talked to a number of people with asthma about how I feel during certain times.
One of the more annoying aspects of these ailments is that we had plans to visit family in Madison for the weekend. I was going to end up staying in a house with four children under the age of 12, three dogs and three cats. Something about this seemed like a bad idea to me, so my brother and I came back the evening of the same day.
It hasn't stopped, though. Tuesday night left me wide awake feeling short of breath the entire night. I knew that at this rate, I would be unable to work my scheduled 8-2 shift the next morning, and so finally sought help around 3:00. Unfortunately, the only place open at that time of night is the Emergency Room. They had me use a nebulizer and took some chest x-rays. As I was waiting for the doctor to come back with his analysis of the x-rays, I figured it wold be my luck to suddenly have something ridiculous and outrageous, like lung cancer.
But apparently my lungs are clear, except for the bronchial infection. I managed to arrange for someone to cover my shifts not only Wednesday, but also Thursday. Wednesday night, mine was a requested presence at the church (located exactly half a mile from my apartment) to discuss some matters of importance to my authority position in our Young Single Adult program. While there, I asked some priesthood bretheran to give me a blessing of health, and have been coughing out lung junk ever since then. HUZZAH!
Additionally, I asked if I could spend the next few nights at my parent's house in the bluffs outside of town. I did so Sunday night because my parents were still out of town, they needed someone to take care of the dog, and I noticed how much better I felt out there than in town, and especially in my stuffy apartment.
I have to say that being on so many medications is making me a bit deranged (well, more than usual), so I apologize for the link on the word "normal". I need sleep, and yet, it eludes me so...
As I have never blogged before, I have no idea what I'm doing. If you are currently reading this, I'm sorry.
Some things to know about me:
1. I am not funny. Well, I like to think I'm funny, but most people don't catch on to my dry sense of humour.
2. This blog is going to be used as a repository of my inane ramblings, musings, and various brick-a-brak. You may find it informative; you may even find it entertaining, but probably not. Anyway, as such a repository, I will only post when I feel like it.
3. I am a conservative Christian who believes in the Constitution as written by the Founders of the United States of America. If you have a problem with any of that, I will probably end up offending you.
